Ghanaian wood mask, 'Dear One'

Carved by hand, this mask is a superb example of Peter Wolfgang Nkrumah's skill. Its subtle green surfaces are accented by geometric patterns in red and gold. Tufts of red cotton with blue beads become earrings, and brass repoussé adds intricate textures. Named Odo Fo Pa (Dear One) in the Akan language, the mask comes from the artisan's own imagination.
