Wood mask, 'Regal Ganesha'

With his golden headdress and gilded tusks, Ganesha is a regal presence. Kumawat pays tribute to one of the most beloved Hindu deities. Ganesha is attributed with writing the Mahabharata, one of India's most famous epics. His great elephant head rests on a human body, and he is worshipped at the beginning of auspicious ceremonies.

The mask is adorned with 24k gold and an iron hook at the back permits wall display.

Kumawat

"Hi everyone, my name is Prithvi Raj Kumawat and I was born on August 14, 1964. I began to train in the art of crafts when I was ten years old. My parents were financially unable to support my studies so I had to earn money myself to provide for my education. So, while I was training, I studied. I never intended to end up in this profession of crafting, but I had no other choice. However, today I realize this is what destiny had in store for me.

"For fifteen long years I was trained by my cousin, Chhote Lal Kumawat. During this time as a trainee I really learned and understood the art of crafting. By 1983, I was able to work independently. My line of products includes all types of wooden handicrafts, but my specialty is Natraj, as well as other Hindu deities.

"I am proud to say, my effort and hard work eventually paid off, and in 1986 I was honored with the Rajasthan State Award. I have also participated in numerous exhibitions in and around the country. In 1998 and 1999, I was honored to participate in the Dubai Shopping Festivial, which is regarded as a prestigious event.

"It's good to be associated with Novica. Through Novica I'm already getting good responses from art lovers across the globe. Each purchase motivates me and encourages me to present the finest quality."

Novica is honored to congratulate Kumawat for being the recipient of the 2004 National Merit Certificate for Master Craftperson, an award presented by India's Ministry of Textiles.
